Myth vs Fact #72

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:42 Had it been a near gain (booty in front of them) and an easy journey, they would have followed you, but the distance (Tabuk expedition) was long for them, and they would swear by Allâh, “If we only could, we would certainly have come forth with you.” They destroy their ownselves, and Allâh knows that they are liars.

Tafsir: Jihad is required in all Conditions
Why Hypocrites would not join in Jihad
Bottom Line: Refusal to join Jihad is self-destruction because it leads Allah to cast you into Hellfire. Get a clue by reading the Tafsir.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:41 March forth, whether you are light (being healthy, young and wealthy) or heavy (being ill, old and poor), strive hard with your wealth and your lives in the Cause of Allâh. This is better for you, if you but knew.
Tafsir:
Bottom Line: Warmonger or Prophet? You decide, but read those tafsir first.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:39 If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allah is Able to do all things.
Tafsir: Admonishing the Preference of Opinion in a Religious Matter
Bottom Line: Go to Jihad or go to Hell.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:38 O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allâh (i.e. Jihâd) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter.
Tafsir: Admonishing clinging to Life rather than rushing to perform Jihad

Admonishing the Preference of Opinion in a Religious Matter

Bottom Line: Read the emphasized text, then the first tafsir title.  Now you know what Moe’s priority is; it ain’t peace.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:36 Verily, the number of months with Allâh is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allâh on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred, (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islâmic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein, and fight against the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) collectively , as they fight against you collectively. But know that Allâh is with those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious – see V.2:2).
Tafsir:
Bottom Line: What in Hell has religion to do with warfare???!  Its time to get a clue.  You can’t  go on ghazwat in 4 months, the other  8 are open season. Right religion, yeah, right.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:29 Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allâh, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allâh and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islâm) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Tafsir:
Bottom Line: 9:29 is an order to fight Jews, Christians, Samaritains, Sabeans & Zoroastrians until they are subjugated and pay extortion. There is neither chronological nor geographic limitation on the imperative; it is outcome oriented. Notice the title of Ibn Kathir’s tafsir of this ayeh: The Order to fight…. This ayeh is also the basis of a significant ruling of Islamic law. Click the link and search for O9.8.
Reliance of the Traveller O-9.8: The Objectives of Jihad
The caliph (o-25) makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians (N: provided he has first invited them to enter Islam in faith and practice, and if they will not, then invited them to enter the social order of Islam by paying the non-Muslim poll tax (jizya, def: o-11.4) -which is the significance of their paying it, not the money itself-while remaining in their ancestral religions) (O: and the war continues) until they become Muslim or else pay the non-Muslim poll tax (O: in accordance with the word of Allah Most High,
“Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and who forbid not what Allah and His messenger have forbidden-who do not practice the religion of truth, being of those who have been given the Book-until they pay the poll tax out of hand and are humbled” (Koran 9.29),
the time and place for which is before the final descent of Jesus (upon whom be peace). After his final coming, nothing but Islam will be accepted from them, for taking the poll tax is only effective until Jesus’ descent (upon him and our Prophet be peace), which is the divinely revealed law of Muhammad. The coming of Jesus does not entail a separate divinely revealed law, for he will rule by the law of Muhammad. As for the Prophet’s saying (Allah bless him and give him peace),
“I am the last, there will be no prophet after me,”
this does not contradict the final coming of Jesus (upon whom be peace), since he will not rule according to the Evangel, but as a follower of our Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) ).

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:25-26 Truly Allâh has given you victory on many battle fields, and on the Day of Hunain (battle) when you rejoiced at your great number but it availed you naught and the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for you, then you turned back in flight.
Then Allâh did send down His Sakînah (calmness, tranquillity and reassurance, etc.) on the Messenger (Muhammad), and on the believers, and sent down forces (angels) which you saw not, and punished the disbelievers. Such is the recompense of disbelievers.
Tafsir:
Bottom Line: The first sentence of this ayeh is not compatible with peace nor is the concept of punishing disbelievers with warfare.

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:24 Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight … are dearer to you than Allâh and His Messenger, and striving hard and fighting in His Cause , then wait until Allâh brings about His Decision (torment). And Allâh guides not the people who are Al-Fâsiqûn (the rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).
Tafsir:
Bottom Line What is your hierarchy of values? How does it stack up againsat Moe’s?

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. 9:20 Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allâh’s Cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allâh. They are the successful.
Tafsir:
Bottom Line: Mujahideen are preferred; bet the best seats in the celestial bordello.  Go to http://www.quranbrowser.com through the link in the surah number, and search Hilali for success.
